| spa |
dc.description.abstract | The arrival of different groups of immigrants to Spain has produced some communication necessities in the scene of some public sectors (health & care services, Education, etc.). Community interpreters try to overcome cultural and linguistic differences between the new collectives and the institutions of the host country. In Spain, although the demand of Community Interpreting has increased in the last decade, guidelines have not been established at Universities in order to train and prepare these interpreters. Many times, when Community interpreters are required, institutions employ untrained people who are only able to speak the requested languages, a quality which is not enough to offer an efficient service. In the training courses students should also acquire an extra linguistic knowledge about the importance of knowing the regulations of those institutions where they may work, the familiarity with the cultures of both parties, the need to adequate the register to the cultural level of each party and the possibility to surpass the limits of a simple interpreting. Spanish Universities should offer additional courses to train these professionals or should establish some guidelines, so that the students could acquire certain ideas about the profession before they finish their studies. | spa |
