The first article on business creation by women was published midway through the 1970s. The author was Eleanor Brantley Schwartz (1976), and it appeared in the Journal of Contemporary Business. The article, entitled ‘Entrepreneurship: A New Female Frontier’, was based on 20 interviews with female entrepreneurs. Schwartz combined descriptive and exploratory research to identify traits, motivations, and personal attitudes common to these 20 women, concluding that the main drivers were the same as for men: the need for success, independence, economic reward, and work satisfaction.spa
