Abstract
Atlántida sumergida, recorre los diversos
intentos de materializar la inconclusa
obra Atlántida de Manuel de Falla por
tres arquitectos de distintas generaciones
del pasado siglo: Germán de Falla, Casto
Fernández-Shaw y José María García de
Paredes.
otro tiempo.
Submerged Atlántida, goes through the different ways in which three architects from the past century, Germán de Falla, Casto Fernández-Shawand José María García de Paredes, approached Atlántida, the last and unfinished work of the Spanish composer Manuel de Falla. They not only propose diverse unrealised scenography but also a reflection about the relations between architecture, music and visual arts. These relations were also present in Falla´s thought when he worked in Atlántida and its scenography in the late 20´s with the painter José María Sert when he wrote: «I can see the pictures when I compose the music». Besides describing the story of Atlántida after 1946, when the musician died, this text is an occasion to think about the different ways different times approach an unfinished work, either music or architecture. In this sense, a different author can complete the unfinished work with a personal reconstruction or it can just be presented, in a new context, as a collection of fragments of the past.
