Leibniz, Cyrano y el otro mundo: no hay ciudad de Dios sin la razón

Abstract

En los inicios de la modernidad europea se produjeron numerosas obras utópicas, muchas con alto contenido satírico, todas asociadas a supuestos lugares remotos. Una de las más importantes fue la de Cyrano de Bergerac, que rompe con numerosas ideas racionalistas y cristianas desde la perspectiva del libertinismo. En su lucha contra el escepticismo y el relativismo en filosofía y religión, Leibniz analiza críticamente esta y otras concepciones sobre el mundo y el hombre para reafirmar el papel fundamental de la solución racional para los problemas humanos y sociales frente a la crítica sin alternativa.

At the start of modernity in Europe, many works on utopia associated with remote places were written, some with profound satiric message. One of the more important works was the Travels of Cyrano de Bergerac, in which he expounded his critique of rationalist and Christian ideas from a libertinian perspective. In his fight against scepticism and relativism, Leibniz critically analyzes Cyrano’s work and other conceptions of the world and the human being in order to affirm the central role of rational solutions, because a critique that does not offer any alternative is no solution to the problems of society.
