Una arquitectura para la ciudad. Anarchitecture (Gordon Matta-Clark, 1973-1974)

Abstract

A pesar del interés de Gordon MattaClark en realizar una práctica artística de autonomía disciplinar, su obra trasciende como un ejercicio de producción teórica que experimenta sobre nuevas formas de arquitectura y de ciudad. De manera significativa, Anarchiteture, el proyecto colectivo desarrollado entre 1973 y 1974, muestra las ‘paradojas culturales’ con las que se gestó una crítica hacia la tradición arquitectónica del siglo XX. Acometer el estudio de Anarchitecture supone: primero, la selección del material primario con los manuscritos preliminares, la correspondencia de los autores, las fotografías del proceso y la post-producción de la obra; segundo, el procesamiento del material en relación con la historia de la arquitectura y la información contextual —cultural, social, política—; tercero, la constatación de la lectura anterior en el contexto de Nueva York; y, por último, el desarrollo de una interpretación crítica según los intereses de la arquitectura. La estrategia de investigación es la amalgama de unas evidencias en forma de documentos que permiten recomponer un mapa donde la arquitectura parece ser el origen y el fin de sus acciones.

Despite Gordon Matta-Clark’s interest in performing an artistic practice of disciplinary autonomy, his work transcends as an exercise in theoretical production that tests on new forms of architecture and city. Significantly, Anarchiteture, the collective project developed between 1973 and 1974, shows the ‘cultural paradoxes’ with which a criticism of the architectural tradition of the twentieth century was created. The study of Anarchitecture implies: first, the selection of the original material with the preliminary manuscripts, the correspondence of the authors, the photographs of the process, and the post-production of the work; second, the analysis of the material in relation to the history of architecture and contextual information —cultural, social, political—; third, the trace of the previous reading in the context of New York; and, finally, the design of a critical interpretation according to the interests of the architecture. The research strategy is the amalgam of some evidence in the form of documents that draw a map where architecture seems the origin and the end of its actions.
