La importancia de la imagen ética en una traducción para la cárcel

Abstract

Este artículo refleja una serie de reflexiones en torno a la traducción del neerlandés al español de la Guía para la Cárcel (h/m) de la cárcel de Gante (Bélgica). El borrador de la traducción (45 p.) ha sido realizado por dos estudiantes que han hecho sus prácticas en la cárcel, y ha sido revisado por mí. Se trata de un texto de naturaleza bastante compleja. Su traducción exige ser consciente de que uno como traductor está esculpiendo una “imagen ética” de la dirección, y que la dirección trata de transmitir esta imagen a los presos. El traductor tiene que captar los tres tonos específicos del “poder” y la “solidaridad”: el de la justicia castigadora (que autoriza o prohíbe, pero que también quiere que el castigo sea llevadero), el de la justicia rehabilitadora (que pretende animar al detenido a aprovechar la oportunidad para reunir bazas y reintegrarse a la sociedad) y el de la justicia reparadora (que quiere despertar en el preso la conciencia de la infracción y su deseo de reconciliación con la víctima).This article presents the reflections about the translation from Dutch into Spanish of the rules and regulations (m/w) of the Prison of Ghent (Belgium). The translation (45 p.) has been written as a draft by two students who have done their practical training at the prison, and has been finished by me. The rules and regulations of a prison are a text of a very complex nature. It requires the translator should be aware that he is carving (by words) the ‘ethical image’ of the board, and that the board tries to impart this image to the detainees. The translator should be able to grasp the three specific tones of ‘power and solidarity’: the tone of the penalizing justice (who decides what is authorized or not, but who wants also to make punishment bearable), of the rehabilitating justice (who wants the detainee to take advantage of opportunities and reintegrate in society) and the repairing justice (whose wants to wake up in the detainee the awareness of the infraction and the will of reconciliation with the victim).
