Abstract
En la historia de la literatura y de las artes escénicas, el jardín ha sido un escenario metafórico recurrente cargado de múltiples significados. Desde la épica clásica hasta la narrativa contemporánea, este entorno ha sido introducido como un espacio físico o como una metáfora que refleja los aspectos más profundos de la experiencia y la psique humanas. En este artículo, se analiza cómo el jardín ha sido representado en distintas épocas, en especial en el convulso siglo XX, revelando su función como lugar de retiro y meditación o de conflicto y cambio. El jardín, ya sea como dominio de creación vital o de decadencia, sirve de marco para explorar las dinámicas entre lo individual y lo colectivo, lo real y lo imaginado. A través de un recorrido por diferentes obras, se reconocerán las configuraciones en que este marco ha sido transformado para permitir la visualización de ciertas materias como el poder, el deseo, la nostalgia y el ciclo de la vida y la muerte.
In the history of literature and performing arts, the garden has been a recurring metaphorical setting laden with multiple meanings. From classical epic to contemporary narrative, this environment has been introduced as a physical space or as a metaphor reflecting the deepest aspects of human experience and psyche.This article analyses how the garden has been represented in different eras, particularly in the turbulent 20th century, revealing its function as a place of retreat and meditation, or of conflict and change. The garden, whether as a domain of vital creation or of decay, serves as a framework for exploring the dynamics between the individual and the collective, the real and the imagined.Through a journey across various works, the configurations in which this framework has been transformed will be recognized, allowing for the visualization of themes such as power, desire, nostalgia, and the cycle of life and death.
