Deportistas en las trincheras de Europa: la Primera Guerra Mundial y su impacto en la prensa deportiva española

Abstract

El objetivo de este artículo es el análisis del impacto que tuvo la Primera Guerra Mundial en la prensa deportiva española. Esta investigación estudia cómo el conflicto armado influyó en el desarrollo de las competiciones deportivas y en la evolución de la propia información deportiva en este país. A nivel metodológico se han seleccionado cinco de las más importantes publicaciones deportivas españolas de ese periodo (Gran Vida, Heraldo Deportivo, Madrid-Sport, El Mundo Deportivo y Stadium). Los principales resultados obtenidos nos muestran cuatro áreas temáticas que centran el interés del contenido de estas publicaciones entre 1914 y 1918. La primera de las cuatro temáticas se define por su intención de subrayar el discurso regeneracionista a través del deporte, junto con la importancia de la aeronáutica y con la información relacionada con los beneficios y perjuicios que el impacto de la Guerra Mundial había provocado en el deporte español. Por último, otro de los temas más relevantes hace referencia al recuerdo de los deportistas fallecidos o heridos en el frente de guerra.

This article provides an analysis of the impact of the First World War in the Spanish sports press. This research studies how the war influenced in the development of sport competitions and in the evolution of sports information in this country. Regarding methodology, were selected five of the most important Spanish sports magazines over this period (Gran Vida, Heraldo Deportivo, Madrid-Sport, El Mundo Deportivo y Stadium).The main findings of this study shows four thematic areas which focuses the content of this publications between 1914 and 1918. The first of the four thematic areas is defined by its intention to emphasize the regenerationist discourse through sport, alongside with the importance of aeronautics and the information relating with the benefits and harm that the impact of the World War had generated in the Spanish sport. Finally, another relevant topic refers to the memory of those athletes killed during the conflict or injured in the battlefront.
