Effect of a Wingate test in cortical arousal and central nervous system in trained cyclists

dc.description.abstractThe aim of the present research was to analyze the effect of a maximum anaerobic Wingate test on central nervous system (CNS) and cortical arousal in trained cyclists.We analyzed 8 trained cyclists (65.8±5.6 kg, 175.5±6.0 cm, 16.7±0.8 years, 10.9±2.5% fat, 33.1±3.83 kg muscular mass, VO2max [mL/kg/min], 60.9±4.1, VO2max [mL]: 4027.8±287.5). Participants conducted before and after a Wingate test a critical flicker fusion threshold test (CFFTT) to analyze cortical arousal and fatigue of CNS. Aftter the Wingate test, cortical arousal increased since the variable of sensorial sensibility analyzed in CFFTT increased (33.35±8.04 vs. 34.37±8.95 Hz). Wingate test increase cortical arousal and does not cause fatigue of the central nervous system, fatigue during these exertions are probably a peripheral phenomenon.spa
