Abstract

During the Spanish Transition to Democracy, one of the most vibrant forums for political commentary was the satirical press. In particular, this medium was used frequently by a certain sector of the left critical of the transition process. This article focuses on the depictions of the General Secretary of the Spanish Communist Party, Santiago Carrillo, from the death of Francisco Franco to the Moncloa Pacts. By so doing, this article sheds light on how certain sectors were unhappy with the PCE withdrawals and the leadership of Carrillo.
