| dc.description.abstract | Zoonoses, responsible for up to 70% of human infectious diseases, are caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites, and prions. Livestock, particularly ruminants, significantly influences their epidemiology. Livestock density, health, genetic variability, and habitat fragmentation from agricultural expansion increase spillover risks. Emergent diseases often originate from domestic animals, highlighting the need for surveillance to improve biosecurity. This entry examines two European zoonoses, Q fever and cryptosporidiosis, alongside a neglected disease, leptospirosis. | |
