Indicators are necessary to measure whether the European Union Member States’ long-term renovation strategies deliver the necessary progress towards the transformation of the building stock into a decarbonized one. Deep renovation of buildings has been identified as a key issue to be addressed in the decarbonization of the building sector. In this chapter, we propose progress indicators to measure the evolution in Spain of the deep renovation of buildings following the European Commission recommendations and directives. We also studied the sources of information available in Spain for the development of these indicators and developed them when there were data. This study allowed us to conclude that in this country, there are not enough sources of data to develop an overview of deep renovation of buildings. The consulted data sources do not categorize renovations based on energy savings depth, creating challenges in distinguishing between deep renovations and other types. Moreover, there is a need to centralize data collection to prevent discrepancies among sources.
