It analyses electricity taxation, state subsidies, barriers to market entry, market concentration, renewable energy regulation and power purchase agreements. The chapter argues that taxation and regulatory intervention have contributed to higher electricity prices and weaker competition. It proposes simplifying energy taxation, reducing unnecessary subsidies, removing barriers to entry and strengthening market-based mechanisms in order to improve competition, transparency, efficiency and consumer welfare in Spain’s energy market.spaAttribution-NoDerivatives 4.0 Internationalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nd/4.0/EconomíaCostes ocultos: fiscalidad de la energía y dinámica del mercado en Españabook partopen accessEnergy policyEnergy resourcesTaxationEconomic policyGoal 7: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energyGoal 12: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patternsGoal 8: Promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, employment and decent work for allGoal 13: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts
