Previous studies have shown that a dehydration level greater than 2% means a substantial descent in the physical performance. Thus, it is important to maintain a correct hydration status during exercising. However, swimming particularity impedes that rehydration can be done without affecting performance (stop to drink). It may be relevant to promote a proper hydration status by using a pre-hydration strategy in long distance swimming trials or the segment of swimming in triathlon (1500m). The aim of this study was to assess the effects of pre-hydration in performance and hydration level during a simulation trial of a segment of swimming in triathlon. For that, 7 triathletes (33.5 ± 7.5 yo; 1.75 ± 8.3 m: 70.9 ± 7.8 kg) with a training experience of 3-5 d/w during at least, the last 4 years, performed 2 bouts in a random order. In one bout, the participants were pre-hydrated with 500 mL of water, and other trial where participants performed their usual routines previous to competition (control trial). Trials consisted in swimming during 1500m, the distance of the segment of swimming in triathlon, with the goal of completing the distance as fastest as possible. Body weight and hydration status were ...
