In this paper, results of the project “Crecemos en Equipo” are reported. The project was carried out during the course 2015-2016, together with Mahou Foundation and Balia Foundation. The aim of the project was to relate health and performance variables to rated perceived exertion and useful time of training (time dedicated to physical activity during practices), through a basketball training programme for 12-16 year-old youngsters at risk of social exclusion. Health variables (BMI, body fat percentage, flexibility) and specific basketball performance tests (agility, endurance, vertical jump) were measured, at the beginning and at the end of the season. Individual perceived exertion and useful time of training were recorded in practices. Results showed negative correlations between useful training time and BMI increase. Besides, BMI significant differences were found between two female teams at the end of the season: the team with higher physical activity recorded during training sessions had a significant lower BMI mean. These results suggest that a higher useful training time helps to maintain healthy BMI levels. Moreover, monitoring useful training time is important to obtain health-related pro...
